Rats & Mice – Pest Control

Our preferred method of control is poison free trapping wherever possible.

Rats and mice are the most common pest in the UK at the moment. It is a fact that rodents can carry diseases such as Weil’s disease, Salmonella, Rat Bite Fever and Hantavirus Trichinosis. We offer efficient and discreet rodent control services to both commercial and residential customers throughout Shropshire and the West Midlands area.

Resistance to poisons is now becoming a major factor within the pest control sector. This is mainly due to changes in legislation which allows the general public to buy poisons from retail premises. The poisons on sale advertise that they are full strength poisons, but in fact the active ingredients have been halved as they now fall into the brackets of AMEAUTURE USE which is not killing the rodents but creating a tolerance to the poisons available. Here at Shropshire pest Prevention, we are fully licensed to store and use PROFESSIONAL USE full strength poisons which kill all resistant strains of rats and mice.

Our preferred method of control is poison free trapping wherever possible. Trapping techniques ensure that the rats are removed from site, which avoids the scenario of dead rats decomposing in cavity walls and under floors. If you have experienced this situation then you will know that the smell of dead rats is very unpleasant rising to great difficulty in retrieving the dead rat itself.

Prevention

Whenever we implement a rodent job or contract we shall always offer specialist advice on measures required to prevent future infestation such as:- Rodent proofing. This simply means taking the necessary action to identify all possible points of entry into the building and then take the necessary action to seal up these points. The most popular points of ingress can be broken or damaged air bricks, gaps under external doors or holes around water outlet pipes.

Harbourage

in pest control terms means a physical situation which harbours rodents to your property. Here are just a few examples of harbourage:-

  • The presence of decking draws in rats due to offering them cover and a place to nest which will be undisturbed by humans.
  • Over grown gardens and dense perimeter planting also gives cover to rats.
  • Bird feeding in gardens always results in food falling on the floor which attracts the rats to nest nearby to ensure a regular source of food.
  • Household rubbish should always be kept inside wheelie bins with the lids kept shut at all times to deny access to rats.

Stacking

By keeping perimeters clean and clutter free it will help prevent harbouring rodents to these areas.

House keeping

Our regular detailed inspections will identify areas where food debris tends to collect. Typical kinds of places are behind fridges, freezers, under kick boards and even in external perimeter planting. By taking our advice and cleaning the areas which we identify, you will ensure that the only food available to rodents would be in the none spill and tamper resistant control points which we have located in strategic areas. In addition, it will also ensure that all old traces of rodents are removed, which will be extremely positive when your premises are audited by Environmental Health and even a supplier. Taking into consideration all of the above points we ensure that you will receive the most effective Integrated Pest Management System available.
